Men in Blue #1 - Night is Darkest by Jayne Rylon

Night is Darkest (Men in Blue, #1)Night is Darkest by Jayne Rylon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After working the night shift as a nurse in the ER, Lacey comes home and receives the worst news of her life – her brother, a policeman, had been killed in the line of duty. Lacey is devastated and turns to her brothers two best friends, the two men she’s always wanted but could never have, for comfort and protection.

Mason and Tyler have known Lacey since she was little and made a promise to her older brother to never get involved with her. When Lacey needs them at the most difficult time in her life, they find it impossible to keep that promise.

The guys become protective after Lacey receives some threatening calls and a virus destroys her computer. They find out what happened to Lacey in the past as well as some of Lacey’s secret fantasies while fixing said computer. Tyler is all for sharing his and Mason’s secret but Mason thinks Lacey won’t be able to accept it, as he has a hard time doing do himself. Mason’s doubts force Tyler to runt o Lacey.

The killer is after Lacey and several attempts are made on her life. Thinking the man from her past is responsible, the three of them head to the prison where he’s being held. There they learn the true identity of her brother’s killer, but only realize it when it’s almost too late. In a final attempt, the killer tries to take out Lacey, but her men save the day. They heal, they communicate and…HEA.

I really liked this story. I felt the chemistry between all three characters. Tyler and Mason are the kind of guys I’d want watching my back. Mason had acceptance issues and almost lost Lacey and Tyler due to them. Lacey was cool and I liked that she went for what she wanted. The sensual scenes were steamy and will melt you in your seat. The revelation of the killer is a shocker, totally coming out of nowhere – but it worked and it was great. Great story, definitely going to read the next 
