Carmen Andrews hasn't spoken for a year, not since she was viciously tortured by a psychopath. Forced into silence by the trauma, she finds a new life in a new town. As a dancer, she can get away with her silence. In her head is a mess of memories, withheld frustrations, and a host of wingless dreams. When her new psychiatrist sends her to a speech therapist to help loosen her tongue, she meets Jacob Weller.

Fresh out of graduate school, Jacob is eager to help those who are suffering from mutism and other speech and language disorders. When he meets Carmen, he finds her attractive but his high ethical standards keep him from mentioning it. But when he's blown away by another woman, his thoughts wander back to the hauntingly beautiful face of Carmen, of the emotive way she looks through him and seems to know him.

As Jacob begins to treat her, he finds himself drawn more and more to her, and even begins to confide in her about himself. As his actions border on the unprofessional, with no visible changes in Carmen, he faces an emotional and professional dilemma.

Carmen struggles with her demons and secrets... secrets that keep her mouth firmly shut and her heart desperately wanting.

My Review -
Body Language is an emotional roller-coaster of a story about healing, loss and love.  This story was amazing right off the bat and I couldn’t stop once I started it.

Carmen is an excellently written character.  She goes through so much in this story, it’s just crazy.  I enjoyed her attitude and felt so horribly bad for her after her traumatizing experience.  Even though she didn’t speak, she still communicated with Jacob and Ms. Mabel enough to convey her meaning.  I think she was strong and determined, in her own way, to heal herself.

Jacob is a great character as well.  I thought his approach to communicating with Carmen was spot on.  He saw something in her that the other therapist couldn’t.  My issue with him was how deeply he reacted to the death of an ex he hadn’t seen on over a year.  His grief, to me, was a bit overdone.

I liked this story a lot.  The premise for it was unique and captivating BUT I think that the 2nd murder was unnecessary – she could have been seriously hurt and saved last minutes or something.  The chemistry between Carmen and Jacob was tense and I enjoyed the heck out it.  Great job to the author – I look forward to reading more from her!!

cover reveal: Waiting on my Reason by Devon Ashley

Everything happens for a reason. I just wish I knew the why behind mine.

Five years ago, graduation wasn’t what it was supposed to be. Publicly humiliated, Melanie was more than happy to kiss off her high school sweetheart. But in doing so, she lost more than just her boyfriend, she lost the only other guy she truly cared for – his best friend, Shane.

Shane loathed the idea of returning to his small hometown. He just wanted to get in, help his best friend manage a legal matter, and get the hell back out again. But he wasn’t expecting to run into the one girl who got away, who always held a piece of his heart despite the animosity that lingered. Melanie could’ve been the one, but after everything that happened, trust was a serious issue.

She just wanted to do right by her son. He just wanted to do right by his best friend. And just when they thought they could find the strength to forgive the sins of the past, more secrets and lies bubble to the surface, threatening to push them irrevocably apart.
